Pierce The Veil: A Flair for the Dramatic Sky
Equal Vision Records
2007

8 out of 10

Pierce the Veil’s debut album “A Flair for the Dramatic” released on Equal Vision records is a keeper.  All four that make up Peirce the Veil are excellent musicians and it is apparent early on when listening to this album.

Comfortable For You - My Entire Life Is A Lie

Although there are excellent guitar riffs and drums throughout the whole CD I was more impressed with singer, Vic Fuentes’ vocals and Pierce the Veil’s overall catchy vocal melodies.  The album has a good mix between screaming and singing and neither are too overdone, in fact, they compliment each other very well.

Songs that stand out on the CD are: The Cheap Bouquet, Yeah Boy and Doll Face, I’d Rather Die than Be Famous and Wonderless.  These 4 songs stood out to me for various reasons.  For example, Yeah Boy and Doll Face has a great catchy chorus while I’d Rather Die than Be Famous has a ripping intro and rockin’ feel throughout the entire song.  Wonderless stood out from the others on the CD simply because it has a mellow but yet dramatic vibe that I have never heard from Vic before and is overall one of my favorites on the album.

Overall I think this is a solid, well produced album and deserves a spot in your car stereo.  The only criticism is there are a handful of songs that sound very similar to one another but other than that, “A Flair for the Dramatic” is a winner and a great debut from San Diego’s own Pierce the Veil.
