Mod Amish - No Use For Sunshine

When I put Mod Amish’s No Use for Sunshine in my CD player I wasn’t sure what to expect. Within the first couple songs I decided I liked what I was hearing. Mod Amish was refreshing. They weren’t refreshing in the sense of originality or anything groundbreaking, but because they weren’t going the in the same direction as all the myspace generation bands that have recently emerged. Instead of opting for samples, digital manipulations, or easily forgotten sugar coated hooks Mod Amish laced No Use for Sunshine with echoes of the pioneers before them. This is in no way a bad thing. The lead singer, Shannon Jones’s voice reminded me of Blake Schwarzenbach of Jawbreaker. Musically the album is very tight. The songs are simple yet catchy, much like the early 90’s punk/indie. Some stand out songs are Involving a Hearse and the One I Want. If you are a fan of Jawbreaker, Texas is the Reason, Sunny Day Real Estate, Promise Ring, or any other band your older brother may have listened to or your favorite band sites as influences then you should give No Use for Sunshine a listen. I thoroughly enjoyed the album. It was a nice break from the dance beat filled pop punk that floods the scene today.
