Unwritten Law & Slower @ The Wavehouse

Unwritten law put on yet another rockin good show on June 20th at The Wavehouse in Mission Beach. While I'm sure I wasnt the only one skeptical of the venue, it added a unique element to the overall vibe. When we walked in, there was a guy shredding on "the wave" with Mower's new band - Slower, playing in the background. Besides being, well, slower, "Slower" provided a certain energy and danceability that Mower had been lacking in recent years. The crowd enjoyed the music and the nicely stocked bar but anxiously awaited for the nights main act, Unwritten Law. About 30 minutes after Slower cleared off the stage, the lights went dim and the guys of UL walked on stage. Surprinsgly, they came out with "F.I.G.H.T.", a hit from their 2005 release, Here's to the Mourning. The next few songs were of the more recent selection as well, including "Blame it on Me" from their CD Elva. About half way through the set though the guitar chords of California Sky and Teenage Suicide made their debut. As you looked around the crowd, it was obvious which fans had been with Unwritten Law from the beginning. They closed with an old timers favorite, C.P.K. and despite the crowd chanting "one more song" UL did not return for an encore..
