Unwritten Law: UCSD Price Center Ballroom |

After hearing nothing but good things about The Transit War I was excited to see them play on stage for the 1st time. They took the stage right at 8 pm to a lightly filled auditorium and quickly had everyone pumped up. It was easily apparent by looking around that I wasn’t the only one that had never seen The Transit War play before, but I, like everyone else was quite impressed. After The Transit War’s set I went to their merch booth and bought a copy of their CD – “Miss Your Face.” Some of the standout songs that I can remember The Transit War playing were: "Radar", "Sheep in your Head" and "Nitetime Enemy". I can’t wait to see this local band play again, this time hopefully at a smaller, more intimate venue.
Murs took the stage for the next 45 minutes. Although I was not impressed with Murs at all, everyone else seemed to have liked their set quite a bit. I thought it was a bit odd having a Hip-Hop group playing with 2 rock/punk bands but it didn’t seem to bother the rest of the crowd at all. I waited patiently for Unwritten Law to take the stage. Unwritten Law came on around 10 pm and immediately started rockin’ hard starting the set off with “Teenage Suicide” and “Rescue Me.” The sound was pretty bad for the first 2 songs and you could barely here Scott’s vocals at all but luckily they fixed the sound and the rest of the set sounded great! Some of the highlights from the Unwritten Law set list were: “California Sky”, “Lonesome”, “Up all Night” and “Seeing Red.”
To finish the night off they closed with an old school fan favorite song – “CPK”. Having seen Unwritten Law play numerous times throughout the years I was very impressed seeing how solid they sounded and how much energy they had on stage. In addition, I couldn’t have asked for a better set list for them to play.
All in all, it was a great show and seeing The Transit War and Unwritten Law tear up the stage made me leave only wanting to hear more and see either band again…which is what going to shows is all about.
