The Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary defines the word “aggro” as follows: Deliberately aggressive, provoking, or violent behavior. I think New Crimes could easily take the place of the word aggro. In fact, the next time my patience is tested, I’m going to shout at my opposition, “hey you bastard!!! Don’t make me go New Crimes on you!!!”
Hypothetical slang words aside, on the music front, New Crimes is a 4 piece hardcore band from San Diego that is injecting some serious energy into their sound. …and I’m not talking about spastic, sugar & soda pop energy. Rather, I’m talking about the type of energy indicative of one who wants to knock over tables, break glass, kick holes in walls, and shake apathetic people until their brains spill out of their ears. In short, these men are pissed off! …and let’s be honest, there is plenty of non-sense in this world to be pissed off about. If you’re drawing a blank right now, then you’re not paying attention.
In 7 short tracks (technically 6 excluding the intro), New Crimes swings with wild fists until knuckles are bloodied and points are driven home with a force akin to drinking from a firehose. Cramming syllables into bars of music with throaty screamed vocals and heavy distorted guitars, the band does a far better than average job carrying the hardcore torch and keeping this crucial style of music alive. “Blood on the sheets or blood on the streets…history repeats!” This ep shreds!
Fans of Discharge, Sick of it All, DRI, and Agnostic Front etc… you’re going to want to add New Crimes to the music collection.
